Има два начина да преведем глагола ИМА:
HAVE – American English
HAVE GOT – British English
There is – ед.ч.
There are – мн.ч.
Ето и кои са условията, за да ползваме единия или другия вариант за превод на ИМА

| Има явен подлог Ivan has a car. | Няма явен подлог There are cars in the street |
| Отразява притежание | Отразява наличност |
Табличката ясно показва основните различия в употребата на двата варианта.
Образуване на въпросително и отрицателно изречение
HAVE
Примери:
They have a car.
Do they have a car?
They don`t have a car.
She has a brother.
Does she have a brother?
She doesn`t have a brother.
От примерите е видно, че когато глаголът HAVE е самичък използваме двата спомагателни глагола DO, DOES, според лицето.

HAVE GOT
Примери:
They have got a car=
Have they got a car?
They haven`t got a car.
She has got a brother.
Has she got a brother?
She hasn`t got a brother.
Отново видно от примерите, когато HAVE е в комбинация с GOT, образуваме въпросително изречение чрез разместване, без да добавяме външен спомагателен глагол.
There is, There are
Примери:
There is a pen on the desk.
Is there a pen on the desk?
There isn`t a pen on the desk.
There are students in the room.
Are there students in the room?
There aren`t students in the room.
